Lake Whitney is considered the "Striper Fishing Capital of Texas." It is the best place in Texas to catch stripers. Lake Whitney has 23,500 surface acres and 627,000 acre feet water. The elevation of Lake Whitney is 533 ft. Water depth ranges to 100 ft. and is very clear due to massive limestone formations. Stripers thrive due to the saline content of the water. Striper fishing is good with live bait, cut bait, top water lures, jigs, and down riggers. Stripers are voracious feeders and fighters. Stripers usually come up to hit baits, but rarely go down. |

Stripers are the largest member of the sea bass family. Stripers are silvery with olive green on there back. Stripers have 7 or 8 solid horizontal stripes on each side of the body. Stripers have two distinct tooth patches on the tongue and two points on each gill cover. Stripers reach 10-12 inches in one year. Gizzard shad, threadfin shad, and perch are normal food sources for striper. Stripers have been introduced in over 25 U.S. states including Texas. Stripers are often suspended at various depths, at water temperatures between 58 and 66 degrees. Stripers are very active and striper fishing is definitely good year-round. |
